What's Happening in Palm Beach County: September 1-13

By Kristi Ramella | South Florida Downsizing Specialist

There is a special kind of magic that arrives in Palm Beach County right after Labor Day. The summer crowds pull back. The beaches open up. The restaurant patios turn unhurried. And the calendar, somehow, gets even richer, this week and next are packed with food, music, art,and community from Boca Raton to Delray Beach to West Palm Beach. Whether you have lived here for decades or you are just starting to imagine this life, here is what is coming up and why this stretch of September is one of the best times of the year to be here. I have pulled together the calendar, the details, and the price tags so you can plan with confidence.

What's happening this week, September 1 through 6?

Tuesday, September 1

Tasty Tuesdays at Sunset Cove Amphitheater - Boca Raton
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at South County Regional Park, 20405 Amphitheater Cir, Boca Raton. Free admission and parking. This long-running summer tradition brings a rotating lineup of gourmet food trucks, live music, and a full bar to one of the prettiest outdoor stages in the county. September 1 is the start of the final Tuesday stretch of the season, with more Tuesdays throughout the month. Bring a camping chair, and let the tropical evening air do the rest. This is the kind of free,low-effort evening that makes South Florida living feel effortless.

Downtown Delray Beach Restaurant Month kicks off - Delray Beach
All month long, September 1 through 30. More than 50 restaurants, cafés,and fast-casual eateries throughout downtown Delray Beach participate with multi-course prix fixe lunch and dinner menus, happy hour offers, and café deals. Sign up for the free Downtown Delray Restaurant Month Mobile Pass at the Downtown Delray Beach Restaurant Month website to view menus, and redeem offers,no app download needed. For empty nesters who love a great meal without the fuss of cooking, this is the best month of the year to explore Delray's dining scene, one restaurant at a time.

Wednesday, September 2

A perfect low-key midweek night: pick one of the more than 50 restaurants participating in Downtown Delray Beach Restaurant Month for an early prix fixe dinner, and then take a sunset stroll along the Delray Beach Beachfront Promenade. Weeknights in September are wonderfully uncrowded, the parking is easy, and the sound of the Atlantic is your only soundtrack. These are the quiet, unscripted evenings that remind you why so many of us moved here in the first place.

Thursday, September 3

Clematis by Night - West Palm Beach Waterfront
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the Great Lawn at 100 N Clematis St, West Palm Beach. Free admission. Florida's longest-running free concert series rolls into September with a Thursday night show on the water. Food trucks typically arrive in the hour before the music begins. Grab a spot on the lawn, feel the breeze off the Intracoastal, and let the music do the rest. September dates continue every Thursday through the month.

Friday, September 4

First Friday Art Walk - Downtown Delray Beach
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM along Atlantic Avenue, Delray Beach. Free. The first Friday of every month, downtown Delray's galleries, studios, and cultural centers throw open their doors for a free,self-guided stroll with live music spilling onto the sidewalks. It is one of the most social nights of the month, and it draws newcomers, and longtime residents alike. September's edition lands right in time with the start of Restaurant Month,so art walk plus dinner makes a perfect date night,or a perfect solo evening for that matter.

Labor Day Weekend kicks off across Delray Beach, and Boca Raton
Friday through Monday, September 4 through 7. Restaurants, and bars across the county roll out weekend-long live music, and specials. In Delray, catch four days of live music at Deck 84 with brunch, and in Boca the candlelit Candlelight: The Soundtrack of the 60s concert takes place at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church at 6:30 PM,with ticket prices varying by section. Wherever you land, the opening weekend of September feels like a final, unhurried exhale of summer. It is also the perfect window to try a Restaurant Month dinner, since the downtown scene is already festive.

Saturday, September 5

Delray GreenMarket - Old School Square, Delray Beach
9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at 51 N Swinton Ave, Delray Beach. Free admission. Every Saturday, dozens of local farmers, makers, and food vendors gather on the lawn of historic Old School Square. Late-summer produce is still flowing, and the pace is wonderfully relaxed. Bring a reusable bag,and build your week around what looks best that morning. It is one of those simple rituals that helps a new town start feeling like home quickly.

Sunday, September 6

Boca Farmers Market
9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus, 4950 Communication Ave, Boca Raton. Free admission. Over 85 vendors selling fresh produce, artisan breads, local honey, and handcrafted goods. The late-summer market is one of the liveliest of the year, and Sunday mornings at BRiC have become a weekly ritual for hundreds of families across the county. Then head into the afternoon with a beach visit,a bike ride,or an easy lunch downtown.

The Gardens GreenMarket - Palm Beach Gardens
8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 10500 N Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens. Over 60 vendors with live music. Another great Sunday-morning option if you are on the northern side of the county.

What about September 7 through 13?

The week after Labor Day is my favorite secret in Palm Beach County. The beaches belong to the locals again. The seasonal residents have not yet returned. And the calendar keeps delivering, from an R&B world tour at the county's biggest amphitheater to a hands-on Japanese music workshop in Delray Beach. Here is the day-by-day.

Monday, September 7

Labor Day - beaches, parks, and outdoor spaces across Palm Beach County
This is the last big holiday of summer, and South Florida does it better than almost anywhere else. Red Reef Park, and Spanish River Park in Boca Raton, along with the Delray Beach Beachfront Promenade, are open, and at their absolute best. Pack a cooler, bring a chair, and spend the afternoon with the Atlantic as your soundtrack. Parking fills early on holiday mornings,so arrive before 10 AM if you can. Palm Beach County Library branches are closed for the holiday, and Tasty Tuesdays resumes tomorrow. This is the kind of unhurried day that reminds you why people move here in the first place.

Tuesday, September 8

Tasty Tuesdays at Sunset Cove Amphitheater - Boca Raton
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at South County Regional Park, 20405 Amphitheater Cir, Boca Raton. Free admission. Another Tuesday, another evening of rotating gourmet food trucks, and live music under the South Florida sky. The final Tasty Tuesdays of the summer season continue through late September,so there is plenty of time left to catch one. Bring a chair, arrive hungry, and stay for the sunset.

All Arts Open Mic - Arts Garage, Delray Beach
8:00 PM at 94 NE 2nd Ave, Delray Beach. Tickets through Arts Garage, typically about $10. Whether you are a musician,a poet,a comedian,or a storyteller, this open mic night welcomes all creative voices. And if you prefer to listen rather than perform, the intimate 99-seat theater at Arts Garage makes for a wonderful evening of discovery. You never know what talent might walk through that door.

Wednesday, September 9

Andy Frasco and the U.N. - Crazy Uncle Mike's, Boca Raton
8:00 PM. Tickets at the door,or in advance. The high-energy,party-starting funk, and soul collective keeps a loyal following for a reason: their live show is equal parts dance party, and pep rally, and church revival. A fun midweek night out for anyone who loves live music without the amphitheater scale.

Thursday, September 10

Clematis by Night - West Palm Beach Waterfront
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the Great Lawn at 100 N Clematis St. Free admission. Another Thursday, another free concert on the water, with food trucks arriving early. 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 1450 S Dixie Hwy, West Palm Beach. $5 members,$10 general admission, and free for West Palm Beach residents. The Norton's Friday night tradition of live music,pop-up talks, films, workshops, and a cash bar remains one of the most elegant ways to spend a Friday evening,in Palm Beach County. Why does Palm Beach County work so well for empty nesters, and retirees?

The question I hear most often from people considering a move to South Florida is a simple one: "Will I find my community here?" And the calendar answers it more eloquently than I ever could in conversation.

In a single two-week stretch, you could wander an art walk on Atlantic Avenue, share a prix fixe dinner at one of more than 50 downtown Delray restaurants, sing along to a country superstar at one of the top amphitheaters,in the Southeast, watch the sun set over a Japanese garden, and load your tote with peaches, and honey at a farmers market. That is not an exceptional season. That is an ordinary late-summer fortnight,in Palm Beach County. These are not tourist attractions. They are the fabric of a community built around connection, culture, and quality of life, and a little bit of fun.

And the numbers behind the lifestyle are just as compelling. Florida has no state income tax,and no Social Security tax. The homestead exemption can reduce your taxable property value by up to 50,000 once you establish residency, and the Save Our Homes amendment caps annual assessment increases at 3 percent. Homeowners 65,and older with qualifying household incomes may be eligible for additional exemptions. More than two dozen 55-plus communities across the county offer clubhouses, pools, fitness centers, pickleball courts, and social calendars of their own. Healthcare is excellent, with Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital, and Delray Medical Center, both providing nationally recognized care close to home. And with the Brightline station,in Boca Raton providing rail access to Miami, and Orlando, getting anywhere you want to go is effortless.

When you choose a home,in South Florida, you are not just picking a floor plan. You are choosing a lifestyle where you can stay active, engaged, and surrounded by people who share your curiosity, and your enthusiasm for this chapter of life. That is exactly what the next two weeks offer,up and down the coast.
