What's Happening in Palm Beach County: August 27 through Labor Day Weekend

By Kristi Ramella | South Florida Downsizing Specialist

Mizner Park in Boca Raton at golden hour with Mediterranean architecture, glowing string lights, and palm trees against a warm sunset sky

There is a moment in late August when South Florida seems to exhale. The sky takes on a softer quality at dusk. The beaches feel less crowded, more contemplative. And the calendar, far from winding down, builds toward one of the most festive stretches of the year: the final week of summer leading into Labor Day weekend. Over the next two and a half weeks, Palm Beach County delivers an extraordinary lineup of live music, art, community gatherings, and the kind of golden-hour evenings that remind you exactly why so many people choose to call this place home. Whether you are settled here or just beginning to imagine what life in Boca Raton, Delray Beach, or West Palm Beach could feel like, this is your guide to the best of the days ahead.

What's happening this week, August 20 through 26?

Thursday, August 20

Summer Sips & Sounds: Timeless Standards — Songs of the 1930s
6:00 PM at The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum, 71 N Federal Highway, Boca Raton. Tickets through the Boca Raton Historical Society. This intimate evening pairs live music from the 1930s with wine and light bites inside the historic 1927 F.E. Schmidt house, one of Boca Raton's most charming landmarks. The Schmidt House is one of those places you walk into and instantly feel transported to a different era, with original hardwood floors, a grand staircase, and period furnishings that make the music feel even more alive. A sophisticated and relaxed way to spend a summer evening.

Clematis by Night — West Palm Beach Waterfront
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the Great Lawn at 101 N Clematis St. Free admission. Every Thursday without fail, year after year. Food trucks arrive at 5:30 PM. Bring a chair and settle in for free live music on one of the most beautiful waterfront stages in Florida. I have watched this series bring together neighbors, newcomers, and visitors for over a decade now, and it never gets old.

Wellington Food Truck & Music Series — Wellington Amphitheater
Food trucks from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, music at 6:30 PM at 12100 Forest Hill Blvd. Free admission. Over 20 food trucks rotate each week. An easy, family-friendly evening out with no reservations needed.

Friday, August 21

Never Stop Believin' — The Ultimate Tribute to Journey at Arts Garage
8:00 PM at 94 NE 2nd Ave, Delray Beach. Tickets through Arts Garage, typically $35 to $50. Arts Garage in Delray Beach's Pineapple Grove Arts District is one of the most intimate performance venues in South Florida, with just 99 seats. Every show there feels like a private concert. This tribute to Journey promises all the hits, from "Don't Stop Believin'" to "Any Way You Want It," and the acoustics in that room are absolutely stunning.

Art After Dark — Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach
5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 1450 S Dixie Hwy. $18 for adults, free for members and children under 18. The Norton's Friday night tradition of live music, pop-up gallery talks, and a cash bar in a world-class museum setting remains one of the most elegant ways to spend a Friday evening in Palm Beach County. Current exhibitions on view include Courage & Compassion: The Japanese American WWII Experience, Yōkai: Scenes of the Supernatural in Japanese Woodblock Prints, Danielle Mckinney: Shelter, and Art & Independence: America at 250.

Saturday, August 22

West Palm Beach Beer Fest — Bryant Park, Lake Worth Beach
6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 201 Lake Ave, Lake Worth Beach. Tickets typically $25 to $50. Over 50 craft breweries, live music, and food vendors at this popular waterfront festival. Bryant Park sits right on the Intracoastal Waterway, so the sunset views alone are worth the trip. Whether you are a craft beer enthusiast or just looking for a lively Saturday evening with friends, this is an event that brings the community together in a big way.

Siempre Flamenco — Arts Garage, Delray Beach
8:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 94 NE 2nd Ave, Delray Beach. Tickets typically $35 to $50. An evening of authentic flamenco music and dance in the intimate setting of Arts Garage. I have seen flamenco here before, and the experience is electric. You can hear the guitarists' fingers on the strings and feel the dancer's footwork through the floor. It is the kind of performance that stays with you for days.

Sunday, August 23

Boca Farmers Market
9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus, 4950 Communication Ave. Over 90 vendors selling fresh produce, artisan breads, local honey, organic meats, and handcrafted goods. Free admission. Year-round, rain or shine. I start many of my Sunday mornings here, and I always run into someone I know.

The Gardens GreenMarket — Palm Beach Gardens
8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 10500 N Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens. Over 60 vendors with live music from 9:00 AM to noon. Fresh produce, dairy, pastries, flowers, and prepared foods. A wonderful short drive north from Boca and Delray.

Monday, August 24 through Wednesday, August 26

The final full week of August offers a slower pace that I have come to treasure. The summer rush is behind us, and the September energy has not quite started yet. The beaches are quiet, your favorite restaurant can probably get you a table on short notice, and the evening walks along the Intracoastal are nothing short of spectacular.

What about August 27 through 30?

Thursday, August 27

Full Moon Yoga & Night Market — Old School Square, Delray Beach
6:30 PM to 9:30 PM at 51 N Swinton Ave, Delray Beach. Free admission. This is the kind of event that makes Delray Beach feel like a small town with a big heart. An evening of outdoor yoga under the full moon, ecstatic dance, and a night market with local artisan vendors. Bring a yoga mat and an open heart. Whether you have been practicing for years or you have never touched your toes, this is a welcoming, judgment-free experience. The night market adds local crafts and handmade goods to browse under the tropical evening sky. It is pure community magic.

Clematis by Night — West Palm Beach Waterfront
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Free concert on the Great Lawn. Food trucks from 5:30 PM. Another Thursday, another evening of free live music on the water.

Wellington Food Truck & Music Series — Wellington Amphitheater
Food trucks 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, music at 6:30 PM. Free admission.

Friday, August 28

Party in Paradise: Delray's Tribute to Jimmy Buffett — Old School Square, Delray Beach
5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 51 N Swinton Ave. Free admission. In celebration of Florida's official Jimmy Buffett Day, Old School Square is hosting a free evening of live steel drum performances, tropical drinks, and island vibes on the historic lawn. If there is one event that captures the spirit of coastal living in South Florida, this is it. Jimmy Buffett's music was never just about beaches and boats. It was about choosing a life that feels lighter, freer, and more joyful. That is a feeling I understand deeply, and it is one I see in so many of the empty nesters I work with when they make the move to South Florida.

Art After Dark — Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach
5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. $18 general admission, free for members and children under 18.

Saturday, August 29

This is a major exhibition featuring the work of one of the most influential Chinese painters of the 20th century. Chang Dai-chien was known for his extraordinary range, from traditional ink landscapes to bold, colorful abstract works. This is a can't-miss exhibition for anyone who appreciates art, and it gives you a wonderful reason to visit the Norton regularly over the coming months as the exhibition unfolds.

The lawn at iTHINK is the perfect place to spend a late summer evening under the stars.

The Gardens GreenMarket — Palm Beach Gardens
8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 10500 N Military Trail. Over 60 vendors with live music.

What about Labor Day weekend, August 31 through September 6?

Monday, August 31 through Wednesday, September 2

The first days of the week leading into Labor Day weekend are my favorite secret in Palm Beach County. Everyone is anticipating the long weekend, the restaurants are lively but not packed, and the weather is at that perfect intersection of late summer warmth and early fall breezes. Use this window to explore a new trail, try a restaurant you have been meaning to visit, or simply sit on a bench at Red Reef Park and watch the ocean for an hour. You have earned that kind of quiet.

Tuesday, September 1

Tasty Tuesdays at Sunset Cove Amphitheater — Boca Raton
5:00 PM to 8:30 PM at South County Regional Park, 20405 Amphitheater Cir, Boca Raton. Free admission. This weekly food truck rally features rotating food trucks curated by Gourmet Truck Expo along with live music in the beautiful outdoor amphitheater setting. It is one of Boca Raton's most popular midweek traditions, and the food truck variety is genuinely impressive, with everything from gourmet tacos and wood-fired pizza to Cuban sandwiches and artisan ice cream. Bring a blanket or a camping chair and enjoy the tropical evening air.

Wednesday, September 2

A perfect midweek evening for something low-key. Consider a sunset walk along the Delray Beach Beachfront Promenade, which stretches from Atlantic Avenue north along the dunes. The public parking at the beach is easy to access on weeknights in September, and watching the sun slip below the horizon over the ocean is the kind of free, everyday luxury that South Florida residents never take for granted.

Thursday, September 3

The Hayley Williams Show — iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre, West Palm Beach
7:00 PM at 601-7 Sansburys Way, West Palm Beach. Tickets through Live Nation and Ticketmaster. Hayley Williams brings her solo tour to iTHINK with special guests Magdalena Bay and Rico Nasty. Known worldwide as the powerhouse frontwoman of Paramore, Williams has carved out a compelling solo career that showcases her range as an artist and performer. This concert is a fantastic way to kick off the Labor Day weekend energy a day early.

Clematis by Night — West Palm Beach Waterfront
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Free concert on the Great Lawn. The final Clematis by Night of the summer feels like a celebration in itself. Food trucks from 5:30 PM.

Friday, September 4

First Friday Art Walk — Downtown Delray Beach on Atlantic Avenue
6:00 PM to 10:00 PM along Atlantic Avenue and Pineapple Grove, Delray Beach. Free admission. The First Friday Art Walk is one of Delray Beach's most cherished monthly traditions. Galleries open their doors, artists set up on the sidewalks, live music spills out of the restaurants, and the entire downtown feels like one big block party. I have brought countless new residents to First Friday over the years, and it never fails to make them fall a little more in love with this community.

Yarden Shalev — The Stay Cool Comedy Magic Show at Arts Garage
8:00 PM at 94 NE 2nd Ave, Delray Beach. Tickets through Arts Garage, typically $25 to $45. A hilarious blend of comedy and close-up magic from Yarden Shalev, whose performances have been described as mesmerizing and laugh-out-loud funny. Arts Garage's intimate 99-seat theater is the perfect setting for a show where you can see every detail up close.

Art After Dark — Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach
5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. $18 general admission. The first Friday of September at the Norton, with the newly opened Chang Dai-chien exhibition now on view alongside the entire collection.

Saturday, September 5

Free Summer Saturday — Norton Museum of Art
10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Free admission all day for Palm Beach County residents. This is the final Free Summer Saturday of 2026, as the Summer at the Norton program concludes on Labor Day. Make the most of it.

Candlelight: The Best of Frank Sinatra & Nat King Cole — First Presbyterian Church, West Palm Beach
6:30 PM at 301 S Olive Ave, West Palm Beach. Tickets from $47 through Fever. An evening of timeless classics performed by a live string quartet in the warm glow of candlelight. The acoustics in the sanctuary at First Presbyterian Church are extraordinary, and the program features favorites like "Fly Me to the Moon," "The Way You Look Tonight," "Unforgettable," and "L-O-V-E." This is a perfect date-night event or a sophisticated evening out with friends.

Sunday, September 6

Boca Farmers Market

Their Labor Day weekend tradition includes live music, brunch, and one of the best views in Delray Beach. No cover, just great food and a festive atmosphere overlooking the water.

Why does Palm Beach County work so well for empty nesters and retirees?

The question I hear most often from people considering a move to South Florida is straightforward: "Will I find my community here?" And the calendar answers it more eloquently than I ever could in conversation.

In less than three weeks this summer, you could do full moon yoga on the lawn of a historic schoolhouse in Delray Beach, watch a major concert at one of the top amphitheaters in the Southeast, attend a candlelit string quartet performance in a historic church, explore a world-class art museum for free, browse over 90 vendors at a farmers market, and celebrate the end of summer with a Jimmy Buffett tribute on a town square with hundreds of neighbors you have not yet met. That is not an exceptional season. That is a normal late-summer stretch in Palm Beach County.

These are not tourist attractions. They are the fabric of a community built around connection, culture, and quality of life. And for empty nesters making the decision to downsize and relocate, that fabric is everything. When you choose a home in South Florida, you are not just picking a floor plan. You are choosing a lifestyle where you can be active, engaged, and surrounded by people who share your curiosity and your enthusiasm for this chapter of life.

On the practical side, Palm Beach County continues to offer compelling financial advantages for retirees. Florida has no state income tax and no Social Security tax. The homestead exemption can reduce your taxable property value by up to $50,000. The Save Our Homes amendment caps annual assessment increases at 3 percent once you establish residency. Homeowners aged 65 and older with qualifying household incomes may be eligible for additional exemptions. Healthcare is excellent, with Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Delray Medical Center, and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center all providing nationally recognized care close to home.

More than two dozen 55-plus communities across the county offer active, amenity-rich lifestyles with clubhouses, pools, fitness centers, pickleball courts, and social calendars of their own. And with the Brightline station in Boca Raton providing rail access to Miami and Orlando, getting anywhere you want to go is effortless.

Thinking about making Palm Beach County your home?

If reading through this list stirs something in you, whether it is excitement, curiosity, or the quiet sense that this is the kind of life you have been waiting for, I want you to know that it is closer than you think. I know because I made the move myself, from Ohio to South Florida, carrying all the same questions and uncertainties you might be holding right now. And I have spent the last 25-plus years helping hundreds of families make the same transition.

The decision to downsize and relocate is one of the biggest life changes you will ever make. But it is also one of the most rewarding. The freedom, the community, the cultural richness, the daily access to beauty and connection, all of it is real and all of it is waiting for you here.

Whether you are just beginning to explore the idea of downsizing, you want to tour 55-plus communities in Boca Raton or Delray Beach, or you simply want someone who understands the process to walk you through the financial side of the decision, I am here for that conversation. No pressure. No sales pitch. Just honest, experienced guidance from someone who has walked this path more times than I can count.

Let's talk about your next chapter.

Book a free, no-pressure Downsizing Strategy Session and let's talk about what your South Florida lifestyle could look like. I will help you understand the communities, the costs, and the process without any pressure.
