Late August in South Florida carries a special kind of magic. The summer crowds thin out just enough that you can breathe a little deeper. The sunsets shift to gold and coral a few minutes earlier each evening. And the event calendar, somehow, gets even more generous. Over the next two weeks, Palm Beach County is bringing us everything from Grammy-nominated headliners at the amphitheater to a full moon yoga session under the stars at Old School Square, a Jimmy Buffett tribute that will have you singing along, and flamenco guitar in an intimate arts district venue. Whether you have called this place home for decades or you are just beginning to imagine what life here could look like, this is your guide to the best of the next two weeks.
What's happening this week, August 17 through 23?
Monday, August 17
Use this Monday to ease into the week. The summer pace in South Florida means restaurants are easy to book, the beach is quiet, and you can actually hear yourself think. I have always loved these quiet August weekdays. They remind me why I moved here in the first place. If you are feeling active, consider starting your mornings this week with Wildflower in Bloom: Yoga at Wildflower Park in Boca Raton, a free outdoor yoga session from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM daily through August 30. No experience needed, just bring a mat and some water.
Tuesday, August 18
Jack Johnson — iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre, West Palm Beach
7:30 PM at 601-7 Sansburys Way, West Palm Beach. Tickets available through Live Nation and Ticketmaster. Jack Johnson's laid-back acoustic surf-rock is the perfect soundtrack for a summer evening in South Florida. The iTHINK Amphitheatre is an outdoor venue with a covered pavilion and a large lawn area, so bring a blanket or a low chair if you want to sit on the grass. This is the kind of concert where the whole audience is in a great mood before the first chord even plays.
Wednesday, August 19
A good midweek day for museum visits. The Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach is open Wednesday through Sunday and currently features Courage & Compassion: The Japanese American WWII Experience, a deeply moving exhibition that tells stories of resilience through photography, artifacts, and oral histories. Also on view: Yōkai: Scenes of the Supernatural in Japanese Woodblock Prints, a fascinating collection of 18th and 19th century prints depicting mythical creatures and spirits from Japanese folklore. Both exhibitions run through August 30, so this week is your last chance. General admission is $18 for adults, free for members and children under 18.
Thursday, August 20
This Thursday gives you options, and they are all excellent ones.
Rob Zombie — iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre, West Palm Beach
6:00 PM at 601-7 Sansburys Way. Tickets available through Live Nation and Ticketmaster. If Jack Johnson on Tuesday was the mellow end of the spectrum, Rob Zombie on Thursday is the thunderous other side. An unforgettable theatrical rock experience for those who like their concerts loud, visual, and larger than life.
Clematis by Night — West Palm Beach Waterfront
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the Great Lawn at 101 N Clematis St. Free admission. West Palm Beach's longest-running free concert series continues every Thursday without fail. Food trucks arrive at 5:30 PM. Grab a folding chair, meet your neighbors, and watch the sun drop over the Intracoastal Waterway while live music fills the air. I have sent dozens of new residents to Clematis by Night over the years, and every single one of them came back saying it was the best introduction to the community they could have asked for.
Wellington Food Truck & Music Series — Wellington Amphitheater
Food trucks from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, music at 6:30 PM at 12100 Forest Hill Blvd. Free admission. Over 20 food trucks rotate each week at this family-friendly series. Bring the grandkids or come with friends for a casual, no-reservation-required evening out.
Friday, August 21
Art After Dark — Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach
5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 1450 S Dixie Hwy. $18 for adults, free for members and children under 18. The Norton's Friday night tradition is one of the most sophisticated ways to spend an evening in Palm Beach County. Live music, pop-up talks, gallery experiences, and a cash bar. This is your last weekend to see Courage & Compassion and Yōkai: Scenes of the Supernatural before both exhibitions close on August 30.
Saturday, August 22
Saturday, August 22 might be the richest single day on this entire two-week calendar. Here is how I would map it out if I were planning my own perfect Saturday.
Village Art Plaza Farmers Market — Delray Beach
10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. This market runs on the second Saturday of each month, featuring local produce, artisan foods, handmade crafts, and live music. A relaxed, community-focused alternative to the larger Sunday markets.
Free Summer Saturday — Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach
10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Free admission all day. Spend your Saturday morning with world-class art at no cost.
Delray's Hottest Party: A Women's Wellness Celebration — Old School Square, Delray Beach
4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at 51 N Swinton Ave, Delray Beach. An afternoon of empowerment, connection, and fun focused on women's wellness. Old School Square is the historic heart of Delray Beach, and events there always have a wonderfully warm, community-driven energy. I know several women who have built their entire social circles around gatherings like this.
Siempre Flamenco — Arts Garage, Delray Beach
8:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 94 NE 2nd Ave, Delray Beach. Tickets typically $35 to $50. An evening of authentic flamenco music and dance in the intimate setting of Arts Garage in the Pineapple Grove Arts District. I have attended performances at Arts Garage before and the experience is completely different from a big theater. You can hear the dancers breathing, see the guitarists' fingers move, and feel the passion of the performance from just a few feet away.
Sunday, August 23
Boca Farmers Market
9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus (4950 Communication Ave). Over 90 vendors selling fresh produce, artisan breads, local honey, organic meats, and handcrafted goods. Free admission. Year-round, rain or shine. This is one of the best farmers markets in South Florida and a Sunday morning ritual for thousands of Boca Raton residents.
The Gardens GreenMarket — Palm Beach Gardens
8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 10500 N Military Trail, Palm Beach Gardens. Over 60 vendors plus live music from 9:00 AM to noon featuring Zoe Ashburg. Fresh produce, dairy, honey, pastries, prepared foods, flowers, cheeses, spices, and plants. Sponsored by Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, this market runs year-round and is a short drive north from Boca and Delray.
What about next week, August 24 through 30?
Monday, August 24 through Wednesday, August 26
The early part of next week offers a chance to slow down and enjoy the quieter side of South Florida living. The beaches are wonderfully uncrowded in late August. Your favorite restaurant can probably get you a table on short notice. And the evening weather is starting to shift toward the more comfortable temperatures that make fall in Palm Beach County so spectacular.
Yoga on the Green — Delray Marketplace
Wednesday, August 26. Check the Delray Marketplace events calendar for exact time. A free outdoor yoga session on the green at Delray Marketplace, one of the area's most popular shopping and dining destinations. Bring a mat and enjoy an evening stretch surrounded by the tropical landscaping that makes Delray Beach so beautiful.
Tuesday, August 25
Goo Goo Dolls — iTHINK Financial Amphitheatre, West Palm Beach
8:00 PM at 601-7 Sansburys Way. Tickets through Live Nation and Ticketmaster. The iconic rock band behind hits like "Iris," "Name," and "Slide" brings their summer tour to West Palm Beach. This is the third major headliner at the amphitheatre in just over a week, which tells you something about how vibrant the live music scene is in Palm Beach County year after year.
Thursday, August 27
FREE Full Moon Yoga & Night Market — Old School Square, Delray Beach
6:30 PM to 9:30 PM at 51 N Swinton Ave, Delray Beach. Free admission. This is the kind of event that makes Delray Beach feel like a community, not just a destination. An evening of outdoor yoga under the full moon, ecstatic dance, and a night market with local artisan vendors. Bring a yoga mat and an open heart. Whether you are a seasoned yogini or you have never touched your toes in your life, this is a welcoming, judgment-free experience. The night market component means you can shop for handmade gifts and local crafts while enjoying the tropical evening air.
Clematis by Night — West Palm Beach Waterfront
6:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Free concert on the Great Lawn. Another Thursday, another evening of free live music on one of the most beautiful waterfront stages in Florida. Food trucks from 5:30 PM.
Wellington Food Truck & Music Series — Wellington Amphitheater
Food trucks from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, music at 6:30 PM. Free admission.
Friday, August 28
Party in Paradise: Delray's Tribute to Jimmy Buffett — Old School Square, Delray Beach
5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at 51 N Swinton Ave. Free admission. In celebration of Florida's official Jimmy Buffett Day, Old School Square is hosting a free evening of live steel drum performances, tropical drinks, and island vibes. This is the quintessential Delray Beach summer event. Bring a blanket, grab a margarita from one of the nearby restaurants, and let the music carry you into the weekend. Jimmy Buffett's music has always been about more than just beaches and boats. It is about slowing down, appreciating the people around you, and choosing a life that feels like a vacation.
Art After Dark — Norton Museum of Art, West Palm Beach
5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. $18 general admission, free for members and children under 18. The final Friday of August at the Norton. This is also your last chance to see Courage & Compassion and Yōkai before they close for good on August 30.

8:30 PM at 8221 Glades Rd, Boca Raton. Tickets through Boca Black Box. Laurie Kilmartin is a sharp, hilarious stand-up comedian and Emmy-nominated writer for Conan. Boca Black Box is an intimate 99-seat theater that puts you just a few feet from the stage. A perfect date-night option or a fun evening out with friends who need a good laugh.

Boca Farmers Market
9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Boca Raton Innovation Campus. Over 90 vendors. Every Sunday, year-round. Stock up for the week ahead.

Last Chance: Courage & Compassion and Yōkai exhibitions — Norton Museum of Art
Sunday, August 30 is the final day for both of these exceptional exhibitions. If you have not seen them yet, make time this weekend. The Norton is open 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays.

Why does Palm Beach County work so well for empty nesters and retirees?
One of the questions I hear most often from people considering a move to South Florida is, "Will I find my people here? Will I feel like I belong?" And I always answer the same way. Look at what is happening on any given week. The answer is right there in the calendar.
In the span of two weeks this August, you could attend a full moon night market at a historic town square, watch a Grammy-nominated band under the stars at an outdoor amphitheater, practice yoga in a tropical park at sunrise, browse over 90 vendors at a farmers market, and end it all with a free Jimmy Buffett tribute concert surrounded by hundreds of people who, a month ago, were strangers. That is not unusual. That is a normal two-week stretch in Palm Beach County.
The events I have listed here are not tourist attractions. They are the everyday fabric of a community that values connection, culture, and quality of life. And for empty nesters making the decision to downsize and relocate, that fabric is everything. You are not just buying a home. You are choosing a place where you can be active, engaged, and surrounded by people who share your interests from the moment you arrive.
On the practical side, Palm Beach County continues to offer compelling financial advantages for retirees. Florida has no state income tax and no Social Security tax. The homestead exemption can reduce your taxable property value by up to $50,000. The Save Our Homes amendment caps annual assessment increases at 3 percent once you establish residency. Homeowners aged 65 and older with qualifying household incomes may be eligible for additional exemptions. And with nationally recognized healthcare facilities like Baptist Health Boca Raton Regional Hospital, Delray Medical Center, and Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, you have access to outstanding care close to home.
More than two dozen 55-plus communities across the county offer active, amenity-rich lifestyles with clubhouses, pools, fitness centers, pickleball courts, and social calendars of their own. And with the Brightline station in Boca Raton providing rail access to Miami and Orlando, getting anywhere you want to go is effortless.

And I have spent the last 25-plus years helping hundreds of families do the same.
The transition to a new chapter is real. But so is the freedom, the community, and the joy on the other side. Whether you are just beginning to explore the idea of downsizing, you want to tour 55-plus communities in Boca Raton or Delray Beach, or you need someone to walk you through the financial side of the decision, I am here for that conversation. No pressure. No sales pitch. Just honest, experienced guidance from someone who has walked this path more times than I can count.
Let's talk about your next chapter.
Book a free, no-pressure Downsizing Strategy Session and let's talk about what your South Florida lifestyle could look like. I will help you understand the communities, the costs, and the process without any pressure.
